Iran – land of my father

June 20th, 2009 by Sassan

The last week has not been an easy one with all the stuff going on in Iran. I have been following quiet a few people on twitter to get some first-hand news as journalists are massively restricted in their work. I hope for the people of Iran that they can overcome the current government, get rid of Achmadinejad and finally reform the country. What has amazed me the most is how well the protesters are using the “new media” (I guess it is not so new to a lot of them, it is just what they grew up with) to organise, to communicate, to break news and to make it possible for the world to watch. One half of me is full of fear, especially looking at the events today. The other half is hopeful. Those who fight can lose…but those who don’t fight have lost already. My thoughts are with those who fight and struggle everyday. In the words of Mahatma Gandhi:

First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.

Take care my friends!
